There is Something About Nífẹ́mi: A Fictional Letter

This fictional letter is dedicated to all the couples out there stiving everyday to make their relationship work. It’s the little things that count. Keep doing your thing.

Dear Nífẹ́mi,

I write this letter to you on Valentine’s Day with a heart filled with joy. Your love empowers me daily to go out into the world and be the best version of myself.

If you had told me that we would make it to ten years of marriage all those years ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. I used to have such a strange idea about love because of the examples I saw growing up.

With you, I have always felt safe. You love me just the way that God intended. Not to mention, you shower me with compliments every day because you understand my need to be affirmed. You love me the same in public and private, and that is not an understatement.

Anyone that sees us together knows that we are in love. From how you look at me, to how you stand up for me in public, even when I am in the wrong, it is clear that love live here.

My handsome Nífẹ́mi, when your mother named you, God had a hand in it. To have such a name that manifests itself in the core of your character is truly poetic.

Your love makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. With you, every day is like Valentine’s Day. You buy me roses every other week and constantly look for ways to make my life easier. I will always remember the new phone you surprised me with the day my phone was stolen. You knew I was planning to buy a cheap Samsung phone to manage for a while, but you bought me the latest iPhone before I could do that.

Let’s remember how you supported me during the period of great darkness. You never once complained, even though I know it was challenging. You prayed with me and sat with me as I tried to heal.

Most of all, you have never given me a reason to doubt you. You are a man with excellent self-discipline, which cannot be bought. Hats off to those who played a hand in raising you; they did a great job.

Nífẹ́mi, the truth is you have always been the romantic one. Simply writing this letter is the most thoughtful way to express my love. Your Valentine’s Day gift will top mine, and that’s okay.

Thank you for holding me down with your unwavering love for all these years.
Love from Kemi, Your devoted wife.
