Discerning thoughts – spoken word

A myriad of theories is hijacking your mind.
Like wandering ships on a dangerous quest.
Destructive memories. Untruths.

Lies you told yourself come back again and again.
But this time you believe them.
It hurts your heart so,
to believe the hurtful lies you’ve told yourself.

Can you trust your wandering thoughts?
So why cry because of the lie?
A small voice whispers, ‘It is not true. My dear child, wipe your tears’.

Now, two paths lie before you.
Will you grow in wisdom and discern?
Or, will you pick the lie coated in a realistic ball?

You bite your nails.
Ponder on the two.
You call on the most high,
seeking for answers.

You read bible verses that make wise the simple.

Your eyes grow heavy.
You fall asleep.

In your dream,
the answer comes.

You wake up and discern.
The battle of your mind – won.

This poem was inspired by a bible verse about discernment.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.’

Hebrews 4 vs 12
